Getting know-how of Blackjack

Blackjack is a widely popular card based game which seems to be played the most in casinos all over the world. Known as 21 or Vingt-et-un (Twenty-one in French), Blackjack is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The players are required to draw cards from the deck and try to be as close to 21 as possible.

At the same time, the players shouldn’t exceed 21 or risk losing the game. Though the basic structure of the game remains the same, different casinos tend to have slight variations.

Before trying hand in game of Blackjack, a player should have deep knowledge of rules of the game, some of which are detailed here.

  1. In case the sum of figures of two cards is less than or equal to 11, one should draw a third card.

  1. An assumption, that the dealer is hiding a ten, should always be made regardless of what is being shown by him/her.

  1. After falling in the ‘danger zone’ or having sum of cards between 12 to 16, decide on drawing or standing by having a close look at what the dealer is having.

  1. The player needs to draw till the total is over 16 in case the dealer is having a card between seven and an ace.

  1. The player shouldn’t draw in case the dealer is having two or three. However, in case the dealer is having two or three and the player has twelve, he or she should draw only a single card.

  1. One shouldn’t draw any card in case the sum total of cards is between 17 and 20. An exception to this rule is that the player can draw another card in case of a soft 17 or 18 i.e. an ace along with a six or seven.

  1. It is not recommended to have insurance. This is mainly because there is a high chance that the dealer will get 21 much before than anyone else.
